Hello fellow DIYers,

Welcome to the May issue of “DIY Decorating Addict”. I have gathered some great projects for you to try to make your home more comfy and cozy. I particularly like the Cover Story by Julie Cadieux from her blog “Julie Loves Home”. She shows you “How To Build Your Very Own Stone Fire Pit”! with very easy to follow instructions. Hello fellow DIYers,

I hope Spring has finally sprung where you are. Wow! What a cold and snowy winter we have had here in the US. I hope you are now experiencing much warmer and pleasant weather.

Along with Spring comes the Easter holiday. I have some tutorials for you this month to help make Easter a pretty and fun day.

All of the tutorials are great for making your home more inviting. I particularly like the PINK Chandelier. Enjoy!

Hello fellow DIYers,

This month’s magazine has lots of green things.  No, not green like recycling. No, not green like money!  But green like St. Patrick’s Day which, of course, is March 17.  Everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day so may the “Luck of the Irish be with you”!  I love this great Irish blessing on the right:

Among other “non-green” tutorials, I have a video on how to fold a fitted sheet.  I know, that is not really about diy decorating, but if you like having a neat and tidy home, then having an organized linen closet with nicely folded sheets is a must.  There is also a tutorial on how to strip a piece of furniture, how to make your framed photos look great, and a metallic treatment for a piece of art.  3 of the tutorials are with items that are being ‘recycled’.

All of the tutorials are great for making your home more inviting.  Enjoy!

Hello fellow DIYers,

February is the month of Love!  Valentine’s Day is February 14 and I have found several nice projects for you to make and to make the day extra special.  It doesn’t need to complicated as Kristin Nielsen writes in her “Winter Valentine Mantel”.  I hope you find it and  the other projects inspiring for your own decorating.

Wow!  It’s already 2014.  I hope you are having a great start to the new year. I had a great time getting ready to publish this month.  I am particularly proud of the “DIY Dining Room Chair Makeover” that we did for our friend, John. My husband and I worked on the project together. John really likes how they turned out, so do we.  John says his family and friends like them too.  My next project for John is to find a “thrifted” desk for his guest bedroom.  I will paint it with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.  I have never used this paint and I am looking forward to trying it out.

For the article “It’s Not Easy Being Green” by Rita Cobb, the picture of the woman leaning over the trash barrel is ME!  Although I don’t go around the neighborhood in heels, you can find me looking in the barrels on trash day. My husband gets embarrassed, but he is coming around. Like Rita said in her article, I find it amazing to see what people are sending to the landfill.  I do my best to rescue what I can.  In one of the barrels I opened a few days ago, someone had thrown out a perfectly good child’s backpack.  I checked it thoroughly and there was nothing wrong with it. It didn’t smell either.  I took it home and put it on the curb in front of our house. I didn’t need a backpack, but I thought someone in the neighborhood might.  Sure enough, within a couple of hours a woman, who was walking her dog, picked it up.  I was so glad.

I had a wonderful time putting this Special Christmas issue together for you.  This issue is free because I wanted to say “thank you” to everyone who has subscribed or taken a look at DIY Decorating Addict.

A few years ago I wanted to make stockings for my mantel.  I didn’t want just ordinary stockings.  I found a sewing pattern that I liked.  It was more like a boot than a stocking but I loved it.  I found the material I wanted to use. It was quite an intricate pattern with ribbons and lining. I don’t have a tutorial on it because I made these a few years ago before I began this magazine.  I really loved how they turned out.

My family and I would like to wish you and yours a wonderful Christmas and a Very Merry and Joyous New Year.

Last month I told you about my first adventure into decorating with the ugly brown painted bedroom.  Another one of my earlier adventures into DIYing was taking an old sewing machine cabinet, stripping it down to bare wood, and then giving it an “antique” white finish.

In those days, there weren’t easy instructions on how to do this so I bought an “antiquing kit” that had all the items necessary to “antique” it.  After  I “antiqued” it, I took the top piece of the cabinet and changed the hinges to make it open to the back instead of the side.  I added a mirror to the opened top.  I put a couple of shelves in the hole where the sewing machine had been. I had created a vanity table for myself.

My Dad helped me with the hinges, but most of it I did myself.  I had my makeup and combs and brushes on the shelves.  I forgot what I used for a chair, but I don’t think I made one.  I was about 21 or 22 years old at the time. I wish I had pictures of it. I was very proud of my work. It looked pretty good and it functioned exactly as I had envisioned.

I confess, I’m addicted…… to DIY Decorating that is. My name is Dianne Corriere. I am the editor and writer for this magazine  - DIY Decorating Addict. I love all the things concerning designing and decorating your home.

My first adventure into decorating was when I was a teenager and painted my bedroom an ugly shade of brown……. experiments don’t always work out.  I didn’t care that it was ugly.  I was so proud that I did it all by myself.  Fast forward to today as I share what I have learned over the years. I will be writing about all my favorite projects that I do myself or projects that have been contributed by other DIYers.  I hope you enjoy this adventure with me.
